“You’re friends with all of these sea creatures?” I asked, shocked. I knew that Aurina was friends with the creatures, but to see so many of them circling her, clearly besotted by her, was something else.

“Of course.” She patted one affectionately with a giant smile on her face. “I love all of them.”

A strange sensation settled over me as I watched her beautifully swim around them, her legs stretching out length-ways as she kicked and splashed around them. I couldn’t seem to stop myself from tilting towards her, my feelings stretching out and wanting to hold her. I wanted the same piece of her that Collin and Carter had experienced.

That was strange, watching her kiss both men. Much as I wished that I could be in their position, I wasn’t jealous. It was the strangest sensation on the planet. Usually, when I really liked someone, I didn’t like anyone else near them in a sexual way. It utterly tore me apart. But I did feel something for Aurina for sure, there was no point in denying that to myself, and I didn’t mind her kissing another man. One of my friends at that. If anything, I liked it, which was incredibly strange. It gave me a weird buzzing sensation in the pit of my stomach. I didn’t want it to end. When she was kissing Collin, I tried to pass it off as happiness for him to finally have something good happen after all the shit. I didn’t like that he blamed himself for my injuries when of course I wasn’t going to allow him to die, not on my watch, so it was nice to see him take a step back from that guilt for just a moment…

But then she kissed Carter and I realized that it was something more. There was a stirring deep inside of me. A brand new set of feelings that I didn’t know what to do with. The sea-witches might have been polyamorous, but sharing wasn’t exactly my thing. Or at least I never thought it was something I’d enjoy.

For a second, I tried to imagine what it would be like to remember this. Not to have my memory wiped and to get back out on land and back to my normal life, but to remember and stay. I considered life under the ocean, away from the pain and suffering, the struggles of my human life, to become one of the men at the palace. They looked happy, they seemed to have content lives, they didn’t look like they wanted to go back to what they had before. I wanted that for my friends. For Collin to get pass his mental anguish, for Terrance to live in the water like he wanted, and for Carter to find whatever it was that he needed to stop him being so restless. But for me… well, that was a different story. I wasn’t sure where I stood in all of that, if what I would gain would
